About this tool
Calculate a digest from the exact bytes of a selected file or from typed UTF-8 text. Review the source, algorithm and byte count, then compare the digest with a trusted expected value calculated using the same algorithm.
Calculations and file processing run in this browser tab. The tool does not send working inputs or files to our hosting server.

Features
- Hash the exact selected file bytes or a typed UTF-8 text payload.
- Choose SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 or legacy SHA-1.
- Inspect the byte count, source and magic-byte observations.
- Download a checksum report or copy the digest for comparison.
Benefits
- Check whether two copies have identical bytes.
- Keep a checksum report with a downloaded file.
- Distinguish a file digest from a typed-text digest.
Who should use this tool?
- People verifying a downloaded file.
- Developers checking file integrity.
How to use
- Choose a file to hash its exact bytes, or enter text to hash UTF-8 input.
- Select SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 or SHA-1. Check that the displayed source matches the file or text you intended.
- Download the checksum report or copy the digest. Compare it with a trusted expected checksum using the same algorithm.

FAQs
Why can two text checksums differ when the words look the same?
Encoding and line-ending bytes affect a digest. Typed text can use LF, CRLF or raw input; an uploaded file is hashed as its exact bytes. Compare sources using the same algorithm and byte representation.
Which inputs do I need for Local File Checksum (SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA-1) & Magic-Byte MIME Inspector?
Use First Hex Bytes of File (auto-filled on file upload); Exact Payload Text (UTF-8 — or upload a file below to hash raw file bytes); Digest Algorithm; Text Newline Mode (for typed text). The built-in examples show how those fields fit together.
What should I check before using this result?
Processes 100% locally. When a file is uploaded, hashes raw file bytes (never filename/size). When typing text in Sample Content, encodes as UTF-8 with configurable newline handling (LF/CRLF/Raw). Keep the original file. Check the saved format, dimensions, page order and content before replacing or sharing a document.
